Pray without Ceasing - TEN Countdown #3
Where does one start writing about prayer? Where does one start writing about Paul’s commendation to “Pray without ceasing” in I Thessalonians 5:17?
I LOVE prayer and I love the different opportunities I’ve had to participate in various types of prayer from fasting and praying, to collective praying, to praying through the Word, to praying during COVID, and so many different ways to pray to and praise the Lord. I could write about each of those and how much I’ve learned from each opportunity, but the one type of prayer that has become the most poignant in my life after the past ten years is praying without ceasing.
In the troubles of our lives we often find we are good at always praying for our situation, for a loved one in a dire circumstance, or our hearts just need to cry out to the Lord. I will confess that once the storm is over, I go back to life, and I stop praying. Then there was the cancer and I needed God every moment of everyday for months on end. With that experience and the various ways I’ve learned to pray, the Lord has worked in my life to be in constant prayer. It took time, and I often fail, but I love talking with the Lord. I love praising Him for the start of a new day, of praying about Him, of praying as I read His Word, for lifting up people in my life, and even for lifting up people I see as I drive around town.
God doesn’t need us to communicate with Him, He knows everything about us, He even knows more about us than we do. He loves talking with you and as you might long for the day of seeing and talking with Him face to face, so does He long for that day of seeing and talking with you face to face.
I leave your with 2 Chronicales 7:14 as we depart on TEN #3. Know that I pray for you, even if I do not know your name or your situation. “If my people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I was heard from Heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.”
